I went ahead and made this post because I've come up with questions to go here:

Would we all like to introduce ourselves?
When new people join, should they make introductory posts, or should we have an introductory thread?

some thoughts
Personally I've always been a bigger fan of people being allowed to make introductory posts rather than keep checking a introductory thread.

However, I think there should maybe be some guidelines for the introductory posts, so we don't get generic ... 'hi i'm tammy, i was wondering if anyone else thinks you should only date boyfriends who are of the same denomination and who aren't icky? kthxbye' ... type introductions.

Maybe something like a little form we request people post and say they're allowed to use that as a springboard for the rest of their introduction..

Maybe a starter question would be included in the example form? ie. What about spirituality is more important to you?

Re: some thoughts
I like that q. I'd also be interested to hear a little bit about where people feel they are in terms of spiritual background.

I have a question I've been meaning to ask - are we allowed/encouraged to invite new members? There are a few people on my flist who might be interested in this group. Would it be all right for me to ask them about it? Or even post an announcement on my journal about this group, in case there are others? Or are we wanting to be more cautious about whom we invite?

It is my understanding that plugging in general is encouraged. It might not be helpful to advertise on, say, 0h_so_em0 (though I guess it *might*...) but if you know people who you think would enjoy the comm, by all means, invite them. We're not about being a Snooty Club.

Cool. Thanks for this info!

And I didn't mean to imply that I thought there was any desire to be "snooty." When I said "cautious," I was just wondering if we'd prefer to invite specific people that we already know, and have some expectation that they'll be willing to follow the guidelines. In other words, making sure that trolls don't slip in. I know that for me, there are definitely people on LJ with whom I would not want to share some of the things I write - people who have been disrespectful of things I've written in the past, for example. That's all I meant by cautious. Not trying to be "exclusive," just mindful, and I wondered where the community moderators stood on the question, too. :)

Oh, no, I know. I was joking about the snooty bit (I guess the snob voice didn't transfer very well into the ether...)

As it is, membership is moderated anyway, so we'll check that people who try to join are, in fact, real people.

Hee! And I just noticed that you actually had already answered my question in another entry - (the one that says clearly PLUG PLUG PLUG). *facepalms* So, I'm sorry for being a bit redundant with my question! :D

And moderated is good. Just because, as I'm sure you've discussed with the other mods, this is sensitive material.

Oh - and I forgot to mention that I like the idea of everyone posting an introduction, which could certainly happen as a thread. But maybe after we get going, it would be good for new members to introduce themselves in individual posts, just so we don't miss them. :)

Don't worry about it - it's a good question. :D

And we'll keep soliciting thoughts on introductions, at least for a little bit.

Erm, and by "a little bit", I probably mean "forever". :p
